Sylvia is a biomedical research scientist, specializing in the areas of Molecular biology and Immunology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, and a Master’s in Molecular Medicine from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Sylvia has over 10 years of work experience in leading medical research facilities in Kenya and currently, her work is focused on Malaria vector research at the Kenya Medical Research Institute. Hailing from one of the marginalized communities in Kenya, where over the years women and girls have had limited opportunities, Sylvia has a strong passion for community development, women empowerment, and education. She believes that many a time equal outcomes may never be achieved but equal opportunities can be presented.
Bertha is passionate and a dedicated advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of young people and women. With a robust academic background and a wealth of professional experience, she is committed to driving impactful change in the areas of mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and rights, research, and advocacy. She holds a Master’s in Research and Public Policy – equipping her with the analytical skills and policy acumen necessary to influence and shape public health and gender equality policies. She also holds a post-graduate Diploma in Project Management, which has honed her leadership and management capabilities, essential for effectively leading programs and initiatives. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Population and Reproductive Health, providing a solid foundation in understanding the dynamics of population health and reproductive rights.
In her career, Bertha has gained invaluable experience in research, where she has led and collaborated on various projects aimed at addressing critical health and social issues affecting young people and women. She has led national and international consultancies as well as the design, implementation, and reporting of multiple clinical research studies in Kenya, Uganda, and Nigeria; published 10+ peer-reviewed manuscripts; including the development of research proposals, including successfully applying for publication of a medical technology device in the World Health Organization compendium. She aspires to continue her career in a global research organization, where quality and excellence are prioritized for positive socio-economic change; making a difference in health and developmental issues.
She is a Board Member of Women Eternal – an Australian Christian not-for-profit social service organization, that supports vulnerable pregnant women and their newborns in Kenya and; in 2022, she was the Sexual & Reproductive Health Advisor to the Board of Women’s Link Worldwide – an international organization working towards bringing justice to women, girls, and gender-diverse people by dismantling structural barriers to their rights.
Bertha is a wife and mother of two lovely kids. In her free time, she enjoys networking and offering her expertise to upcoming women-led organizations.

She holds a Bachelor of Economics and Finance from Kenyatta University with years of experience in office administration and management. She cherishes her family and you can safely say that it tops her list of priorities. She is passionate about mentoring young ladies and helping them navigate challenges in life. She holds a Master of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Maseno University. Further enhancing her expertise, Sandra completed a fellowship program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Washington. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to research, monitoring and evaluation, and policy and advocacy, focusing on creating sustainable solutions to complex public health challenges. In her professional journey, Sandra has gained invaluable experience in research, where she has led and collaborated on various projects to address critical health and social issues affecting young people and women.
Additionally, she has been actively engaged in policy and advocacy, working with stakeholders at local, national, and international levels to promote gender equality, improve sexual and reproductive health and rights, and address climate change and clean energy. Her ability to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations has been instrumental in shaping public health initiatives and driving systemic change. Her vision is to foster sustainable and inclusive growth, improve health outcomes, and ensure equitable opportunities for all, creating a brighter and more equitable future for communities worldwide.
Ruth Kamau, pronouns she/her/hers, is a Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRH) Advocate with experience in Social and Behaviour Change Communication, advocacy for access to affordable SRH services, and story-telling to influence positive change in matters of Gender Equality. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Population Health and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Public Health with 5+ years’ of experience in the NGO sector. She is passionate about working and running programs with women and girls from Low and Middle -income countries by empowering them and passing on knowledge about their freedom and rights when it comes to their reproductive health. In her spare time, Ruth enjoys reading self-help books and hiking.
